AN INTERDISCIPLINARY AND INTERDEPARTMENTAL PROGRAM AT COLUMBIA

Hope Miller

Hope Miller was homeschooled and earned her GED in her home state of New Jersey and went on to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. After enjoying a Classics course, her life direction was changed forever.

In the summer of 2016, she went to Poggio Civitate, an Etruscan dig that was led by Dr. Anthony Tuck. Days were spent excavating and looking for artifacts, as well as learning how to clean and sort objects for museum display. She would go on to be a teaching assistant for Doctor Tuck’s Greek Mythology and Classical Archaeology courses.

Hope plans to continue on to earn her PhD and begin a career in teaching at a university level, wanting to inspire students as she once was. As a first year Master’s student at Columbia University, her research interests are wide and varied ranging from mythology and ethnography comparison to the influence of females in both domestic and political spheres.
