David Ratzan (PhD '11), is Head of the Library of the Institute for the Study of the Ancient World at New York University and project director of NYU's excavations at Amheida in the Dakhla Oasis of Egypt. Dr. Ratzan's work at ISAW is best described as a hybrid academic role, with a mix of administrative, teaching, and research responsibilities: he spends more than half of his time managing various types of projects and budgets, including acting as managing editor of ISAW's publications program, writing grants and directing grant-funded projects, creating internships, and engaging in private development work. Prior to joining NYU, Dr. Ratzan was a Visiting Assistant Professor at Temple University and a Core Lecturer at Columbia.
