Erin Pugh is a senior at Barnard College in the BA/MA program. She is double majoring in Ancient Studies and Anthropology on the archaeology track. Her undergraduate studies have focused on ancient Greece through archaeological and literary perspectives. She spent a semester abroad in Athens where she interned at the Wiener Laboratory at the American School of Classical Studies. While in Greece, she participated in excavations in Voula supervised by the Greek Ministry of Culture. The site, located on the coast of Attica, is associated with the deme of Aixonidai Halai and was a center of pottery production in antiquity. For the past two years she has engaged in archaeological research in New Mexico in collaboration with Picuris Pueblo, serving as crew chief during the most recent field season. Her work at Picuris includes mapping agricultural field systems, excavating a pit house village, collecting and tallying artifacts, and surveying for rock art. Her interests include Greek literature, feminist archaeology, public classics, and translation studies. She hopes to engage in research that employs a number of different methodological approaches, particularly at the intersection of archaeology and literary studies.
