Marisa Gonzales is a second-year M.A. student in the Department of Classical Studies. She graduated with honors from New York University in 2023, earning a B.F.A. in Acting from NYU Tisch School of the Arts and a B.A. in English from the College of Arts & Science. Her academic interests center on ancient Greek drama, particularly tragedy and its intersections with mythology, gender, and feminist literary criticism. She is especially interested in the representation and reception of women often characterized as “wicked” or transgressive figures in Greek antiquity, including Medea, Clytemnestra, Electra, and Circe. Drawing on her background as an actor, she is also interested in contemporary theatrical adaptations of Greek texts and the ways in which classical narratives can be reinterpreted through modern political and social perspectives.
