CLST Alum Evan Jewell awarded Rome Prize

What's Happening

Evan Jewell, a graduate of the Classical Studies PhD program in 2019, will be the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation Rome Prize Fellow in Ancient Studies at the American Academy in Rome. Thirty-three projects were selected out of 909 applications for the highly competitive fellowships awarded to thirty-seven individuals for the 2022–23 academic year. Fellowships support individuals in the early and middle stages of their careers with the “gift of time and space to think and work” providing a stipend, workspace and room and board at the Academy’s campus in Rome. The prize is given annually to those the Academy feels represents the highest standards of excellence in their field.

Evan has been serving as Assistant Professor of History in the Department of History at Rutgers University-Camden. Prior to Rutgers Evan was a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Classics at Georgetown University. His dissertation was entitled Youth and Power: Roman Performances of Age and Ageing from Plautus to Nero.
